I’m so excited to feature the ever so gorgeous work of Lisa Lefkowitz Photography. We shared a studio for three years and she has collaborated with Annena & Co. on some wonderful events. Lisa’s work has this intimate quality, as if private moments have been captured without notice. The images invite you in and make you feel like you have to tip toe around – shhh…do not disturb…amazing wedding in progress! And her flawless ability to express beauty in every detail makes her a favorite among editors – they absolutely love her environments. It seems that I rarely pick up an issue of Bride’s Magazine without one of Lisa’s weddings featured. See my interview with Lisa below.

You have been a successful wedding photographer for over 10 years. How do you stay inspired?
As a boutique studio, I work with a select number of clients per year. Working on a smaller number of events keeps me fresh and inspired! It also helps that I am passionate about what I do – all of my artistic drive is focused on weddings; they are my true creative outlet.
There are advantages to both film and digital photography. What is it that you love about shooting film in your wedding photography?
Film’s classic, organic look has been important to my lifestyle aesthetic. I also love the process of shooting film: being connected to my subject and in the moment, without any LCD screen to look at. I first studied photography 20 years ago when all there was was film, (ok that makes me seem old!) and have always loved the artisan nature of working with film.
You are a favorite among wedding magazine editors. I noticed that most of your real wedding features have an experienced and talented design team behind them. What are the advantages of hiring a wedding designer?
Absolutely – wedding editors love featuring events that have a strong thematic design that they can use to inspire other brides. I am lucky enough to have worked with some of the most talented wedding designers out there… I feel strongly that having a wedding designer is important to the wholistic experience of a wedding. Creating an environment for your guests to enjoy that is an expression of what’s important to you, with personal touches throughout, is a powerful setting in which to celebrate!
I recently had a personal photo shot with you and I felt very comfortable. What tips do you have for couples who aren’t used to being in front of the camera?
Luckily, I’m coming to wedding photography as the most camera-shy photographer out there – so I sympathize! The way I work and shoot is to direct my clients in a gentle, fun, natural way that allows them to focus on each other rather than the camera. By having them interact, I can capture images that are about their relationship to one another rather than with me.

Candyland was my favorite game as a child. As a “grown-up” I love Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry–it’s like taking a mini adventure through Candyland! Located at the Rosewood Hotel Sand Hill and originally tagged as the onsite restaurant’s coat closet–this jewel box is Silicon Valley’s best kept secret. The boutique was built in a flash(about 30 days!) in [...]

There seems to be no end in sight when it comes to cupcake popularity. I happen to love cupcakes–whether swirled, dusted or sprinkled and preferably with an inch of frosting. So when one of our brides, a self-professed grazer, requested mini cupcakes(AKA-babycakes) for her June wedding, we were of course happy to oblige. Annena & Co. challenged Perfect [...]

I can’t wait to venture down to The Grand Del Mar this week for a site tour and intensive business summit! Through my research, I’m anticipating that this resort will ooze comfort and luxury but am most intrigued by the architectural influences. “The resort pays tribute to the indelible architecture of Addison Mizner, a turn of the century [...]

I want to wish one of my special San Francisco couples, Jodi & David, a very Happy Anniversary! Two years ago, over a chilly Memorial Day weekend, this bride did not want to give up her dream of an outdoor city wedding on the fabulous terrace of the St. Regis San Francisco. Her preference was to [...]
